Citrine actually comes from the quartz family and is usually yellowish in hue, seemingly like the sun. But it can also have other colors, such as greenish-yellow, brownish-yellow, or orange.

Interestingly, Citrine is quite rare, much rarer than its crystal cousin, Amethyst, and a lot of Citrine on the market is actually heat-treated Amethyst.

If you know anything about crystals, you know that treating crystals at high temperatures enhances them and can also change their color. It can also remove its flaws. This is called heat treating.

When you heat treat an Amethyst, it changes color and becomes yellow quartz or Citrine.
